How You Can Step it Up for National Nutrition Month

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx

March is National Nutrition Month.  With so much going on and now that we have a lot of time home with family, I am am using this time to help my youngest make healthy choices and show her how to carefully cut fruit and vegetables to make yummy nutritious treats.

By using this time to make healthier choices, I want to help her develop good habits for make great snacks while we are in the house. Have you heard of Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK)?

Through grant funding, programmatic support, online resources, and a parent ambassador network, Action for Healthy Kids makes an impact in schools and communities with the greatest need.  According to a national survey by AFHK, 76% of parents say they have improved their own habits based on something their child told them about health and well-being, which is another reason why it’s so important children learn about health and nutrition at school.

You can take action for your kids by joining the movement at www.actionforhealthykids.org/take-action

Giveaway Time!

Commit to Take Action for Healthy Kids at www.actionforhealthykids.org/win by March 31, 2020 and be entered to win a healthy taste test kit to host a fun and tasty nutrition education activity for students at your child’s school. (valued at $175)

To help you bring some new healthy options to your family, I wanted to share these awesome healthy options with you.

Wondermelon Cucumber Basil from WONDER MELONTM Juice

Looking for a 100% organic cold pressed juice with all natural ingredients, no preservatives or additives, no artificial colors or flavors? Then you have have to try an ice cold Wondermelon Cucumber Basil. This juice is expertly blended with Watermelon Juice, Lemon Juice, Apple Juice, Cucumber Juice, and Basil for an incredibly refreshing juice that’s perfectly sweet with a touch of tartness and light herbaceous. I love that it is only 80 calories a bottle!  It has a uniquely delish taste and is also excellent for hydration.

Apple Cinnamon Granola Bar + Sweet & Salty Granola Bar from MadeGood Foods

With distance learning in full swing, my girls now need snacks that are easy to eat and enjoy while participating in class online. MadeGood offers a wide range of nutritious snacks in a variety of flavors – all made with real fruit, nutrients from veggies, whole grains, free from all 8 allergens and are safe for school. We loved them for snack on the go and we love them even more in the house too!

You can also buy in bulk online at Amazon, Instacart, and Walmart.  You can also get them also in Target, Whole Foods, CVS, Kroger and more.

Power Dressings from Healthy Choice

With lots of time at home, we are practicing safe ways to cut vegetables to help her become more independent when making a simple salad.  We are taking the time to be safe and show her the proper way to use a knife.

Healthy Choice Power Dressings add delicious flavors to your salad while keeping it healthy. Our Vegetable-Powered Dressings are made with real vegetables and no artificial flavors, or soy ingredients. All dressings are 45 calories or less per serving.

We have to decide which dressing is our favorite.  Will it be Healthy Choice Power Dressing Creamy Ranch or Healthy Choice Power Dressing Garden French?  Which one do you prefer?

So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macy So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macys and Santa! Last night, we took the train into the city to preview #Macys #Santaland I have to say it was quite magical. Although my youngest was 12, Santa was able to connect to her and put us all in the holiday spirit.

I believe. I believe….

My mom also came with us. We started talking and I think it was almost 40 years ago that she took us to visit Santa at Macys. I was so happy to visit Santa with her and my youngest for a three generation experience.

Don’t forget to check out the beautiful window displays as you enjoy all of #NYC during the holidays!

#ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but #ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but 1 in 5 adults suffer from mental illness and disorders today.

Let’s reduce the stigma by opening up the conversation in the classroom and at home.
As a teacher and a mom of 3, I know how important it is to be there and be a good listener.

Conversations are super important. It’s never too early (or too late) to have these conversations with your students or your own children.

Operation Conversation is a check-in on kids’ mental health. When we start simple habits of conversations, we can learn about concerns or problems our students are dealing with, help them problem solve, and build their confidence for life’s difficult moments.

Teachers can help to destigmatize mental health starting in their own classrooms by talking to their students about mental health using a free deck of conversation starter cards. Parents can also use these cards to support good conversations while at home. I know as a mom, I can use all the help I can get.

#Giveaway Alert!
I have 5 decks of Conversation Starter Decks of cards to give away to 5 lucky winners to help you get the conversation flowing!

To enter:
1. Comment on this post as to why you would love the conversation starter deck of cards.

New York state has so many wonderful places to be New York state has so many wonderful places to be a part of . From the bright lights of NYC, to quiet places of respite in its parks and wooded areas. Time to walk, hike and reflect. Being active and busy is something that I hope my teens learn from and something we can do together to enjoy all the beauty and nature it has to offer while keeping NY tobacco free. Did you know that our oldest generation of smokers are now dying? After them, you have me and a very large group of people who do not smoke at all. So, who’s next? Instead of taking cigarettes off the shelves, the tobacco industry views today’s teens as tomorrow’s customers, using menthol-flavored products to attract and addict kids – and it’s working. More than half (54%) of youth who smoke (ages 12-17 years) use menthol cigarettes. making it easier for kids to start and harder for them to quit. Menthol is not JUST a flavor, it attracts and addicts kids As a teen mom, I am sharing this so we can all take action! Learn more about the impact of Big Tobacco’s manipulative tactics on our communities and how you can take action to help end this injustice.
