Where did the time go? My oldest is now halfway through high school and we have been exploring colleges to visit. With so many changes to the SAT and college requirements, I was glad to have the opportunity to visit Huntington Learning Center in Scarsdale, NY and work with them to support my daughter with her SAT goals.
This SAT Academic Evaluation is a testing experience that my daughter was able to take in a three hour sitting. My daughter shared that while taking the test, she felt comfortable and the staff was very welcoming and put her at ease for this experience.
A few days after she took the test, my daughter and I met with center director Todd Aronson to understand what my daughter’s current skills were and also find out what her strengths and weaknesses are. Before going over the test, Todd took the time to find a relatable experience for my daughter to help her understand the different parts of the test. For example, after spending the time to get to know her and finding out that she did Shot put, he was able to use a Track and Field analogy to compare different parts of the test to her levels. Not only did Todd explain in detail how she did, he also explained the types of questions that she did well with and those that she would need to work on to raise her score. During this post evaluation, we were given an extensive report that explained the parts of the SAT test, her scores on each component and how her scores broke down in comparison to others who have taken the test. The percentiles and his explanation enabled us to see how much preparation she would need to make a change in her SAT score in the coming months.
When I asked my daughter what she thought of her experience at the Huntington Learning Center, she felt that it was very helpful to go sit for the test and it put her at ease knowing what to expect and look forward to when she takes the SAT in the future. As she enters her Junior year, we know that we have time to plan and Todd shared a variety of options as to how Huntington could help prepare her.
I highly recommend having your child take the SAT or ACT Academic Evaluation at Huntington Learning Center. If you are local, the Scarsdale Huntington Learning Center is located on White Plains Road right across from the Lord & Taylor Shopping Center. When Todd had finished going over her evaluation, he began to discuss tutoring options at a variety of price points to support her with the skills she needed to work on. We were given a lot of information and left with the idea that we would discuss with her dad our next steps.
As a mom of a high school student, I know that Huntington Learning Center put me at ease and gave me knowledge about the SAT that I did not have before. We are now thinking about visiting again to take a practice ACT to see what the better test is for my daughter.
For more than 40 years, Huntington Learning Center has offered dozens of tutoring programs for children ages 6-17—including reading, writing, math, study skills, spelling, phonics, ADHD, Common Core, and test prep for ACT and SAT to name a few.
Their mission is to give every student the best education possible and realize “I can” when it comes to school success. This SAT Academic Evaluation definitely gave us an “I can” feeling as she gets ready for the SAT. Thank you Huntington Learning Center!
This sounds really helpful. I have a son in college. I will have to look into something like this.
That sounds like really great service that they are doing
Sounds like a really good center to go to. It is helpful to know where your weaknesses are so you can improve your future score.
Sounds like awesome center , glad that it was of help
What a great resource for my niece who starts highschool this fall!
Sounds like a nice college looking good
I think this is a great way to get extra help for tests and subjects. Sometimes, I feel like kids listen to tutors better than parents haha
The staff at the location you visited sound committed. I hope all locations are like that.
I have only heard great things about Huntington. Congrats to your daughter!
What a nice service, sounds like it would be so helpful.
Even though I have a Master’s in Education and my husband is a teacher there are things that we just don’t know how to teach. It’s nice to know that there are outside of school options to direct people to and for us to use if one of our kids struggles in and area we don’t teach.
It’s nice to know there are options for high school students to get extra assistance for those all-important tests.
It’s nice to know all of your options. You can’t teach your kids everything. If I had a child college age I would look into this
This would be really helpful with test preparation!
Thank You for this important information.
