If the lack of snow in the NYC area has gotten to you, it is time to getaway ski, snowboard and tube down the mountains!
Camelback Resort Lodge located in Tannersville, PA is a little over a 2-hour ride from NYC. Get ready to pack your bags and head to the Poconos. All you will need is your ski jacket, snow pants and don’t forget your swimsuit too! My family and I were hosted for an overnight stay to learn all about what Camelback has to offer in the winter months.
Make the Most out of your Trip to Camelback
When you only have time for a quick getaway, you want to make the most of your stay. I like to head out early in the morning and arrive between 11 am and noon at my Poconos destination. Though your room at Camelback will not be ready yet, you will have access to Aquatopia. This indoor waterpark is always 84 degrees and allows you to hit the wave pool, lazy river, and so many water rides while waiting for your room. You can also sign up for snow tubing right outside the entrance to Aquatopia. You want to do this early into your visit to obtain the best time for you and your family. We chose the later time 3-hour time slot to make the most of our day. On select winter days included with your stay is the choice of snow tubing or skiing.
Galactic Snowtubing at Night
Camelback has the BIGGEST snow tubing park in the USA and it did not disappoint. With our midweek stay, we certainly lucked out and enjoyed going down the hill for numerous runs. With our party of 6, we had a friendly competition to see who could make it down the fastest on their own and with teams in tandem. There are 42 lanes to speed down. Make sure you have snow boots, gloves and snow pants on. Depending on the weather the snow can turn icy and no one wants to fall. Though you might feel the rush of adrenaline from heading down the mountain you can save your energy for heading back up. The conveyor belt “Magic Carpet Lifts” alongside the mountain helps bring you and your snow tube up for your next round of adventure. If you need a break from the cold rush you can head over to the fire pit to warm up and grab a bite to refuel for your next round down the mountain.
Step outside the lodge and hop on the shuttle that will take you directly to the Snowtubing area. The shuttle makes it easy to keep your car parked as there will be no need to ever move your vehicle during your stay on Camelback’s property.
We are ready for our evening of galactic adventure!, Take a ride on the magic carpet to the top of the hill!
Ready, Set, Go! Six of us were lined up and eagerly awaiting our start. I didn’t win this race but had a great time zooming down the hill. This trip is all about having fun and laughter is contagious.
Galactic snow tubing was such a fun experience. We loved listening to the music and seeing the lights change while reflecting off of the iced over snow.
Splish Splash the Day away in Aquatopia
Who knew in the winter you would be packing your swimsuit for a trip to the Poconos? Well, my family and I did and we had a blast. Aquatopia is like being on your own private island with the sun shining and enjoying the 84-degree weather. We enjoyed every waterslide multiple times and lapped around the lazy “lost river”. The Bombora Flowrider was a hit with everyone. The wait was well worth it.
Kartrite’s Quest is fun for all ages, with mini slides and areas to climb and find fun artifacts. Don’t get caught under the tank when the water gets dumped onto unsuspecting guests. After the first time it happens you are shocked and then you wait again for the thrill of a huge bucket of water cascading over your head.
For those in your group who are 21+ enjoy a drink or two at Flyboys swim up bar. No one said the kids had to have all the fun.
THE GREAT KA-NA-GAWA WAVEPOOL is like no other! Enjoy feeling like you are right at the ocean. Sit in one of the beach chairs and feel the water touch your toes as the tide rises.
Camelback offers Rooms for All Size Families
With many of the resort rooms accommodating large families, you want to have a full house to join in on the fun and laughter. We had a room that can accommodate up to 8 people, with 2 sets of twin bunks, and king bed and a queen size pull out sofa.
A Snowboarders and Skiers Delight of 38 trails
Our next adventure was waiting for us on the slopes. We headed to rental to pick up of skis, poles and helmets. With gear on, we were ready to zig-zag and pizza our way down the mountain. We lucked out with gorgeous weather which was perfect for our mixed group of beginners to intermediates and super snowboarders.
Someone wasn’t ready for the day to be over. Since Camelback is so close to home, we were able to stay until the late afternoon.
Our visit to Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark will be a trip to remember. This place can’t be beat, where else can you ski, swim, snow tube, and snowboard all in one location!

Camelback sure looks exciting. The night time snow tubing must be beautiful as well as fun and the swimming is quite a welcome contrast that anyone would love.
Such a picturesque view!
We’ve been to New York, but never really ventured outside of the city. I’ve never heard of Camelback Resort Lodge. I pinned it so I can look at the information when we go back to New York. Unfortunately, my husband and I are past the Snowboarders, Skiers Delight, & Snowtubing age! If we got hurt that would be the end of a couple of vacations for a while! I still love the water fun! This winter has been a bad one though and a lot of people can’t wait for it to be over with!! Please it’s April already!
Thank you for sharing this incredible vacation opportunity!
This looks like so much fun! I don’t know how I never noticed this place before. It isn’t too far from me. It looks like a road trip with the grandkids.
Been to Whistler once, this place looks like a winter wonderland! On my list of places to see.
Awesome place to visit. My favorite is the waterpark!
Thank You for the information. It sounds nice.

This looks like fun place to visit
What fun! There’s absolutely nothing around where I live to do in the winter, so it would be great having a really cool winter getaway like this to look forward to!
I would love to visit Camelback with my hubby!
It looks so beautiful out there. It’s funny I didn’t realize New York had scenery like this.
