Skiing in Spring at Okemo Mountain in Vermont

Yes, Virginia, there is skiing in spring.   Pardon my humor, but I thought it was a great touch to let all know that as long as there is snow, there is skiing going on. A family travel trip from NYC to Vermont was the perfect way to start our spring break vacation.

Did you know the ski season actually ends a lot later than we think? This year at Okemo Mountain, the mountain will be open almost until the end of April.

When Momtrends invited my family to go to Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, Vermont, for the last weekend of March, my family was very excited to be going away for a holiday weekend.

My girls just started skiing last year and it has been many years since my husband and I skied down a mountain.  I was amazed at how much I had remembered.  Baby steps, baby steps and yes, I made my S’s and wedges and did not fall!

Okemo Mountain Resort

Okemo Mountain Resort went above and beyond my expectations for instructors. All in all my family worked with 5 different instructors during the two days and each one was stellar.  I felt comfortable and ready to go out of my comfort zone thanks to my instructor.

In addition to skiing, Okemo is known for snowboarding too with superb snow and surface conditions.  My yougest spent one day learning how to snowboard.  It wasn’t easy but she persevered.  She transitioned back to her skis for the next days but was happy that she stepped outside her comfort zone.

Ski and Snowboarding Lessons at Jackson Gore Inn

My older two had a great two days on skis and definitely felt more comfortable by day 2.  It was evident that they had improved and their smiles showed they were loving it!

After a few hours, they were ready for the chair lift.

Look at them go!

Thanks to @KProcmom, Karen, because she captured happy moments on the chair lift and up on the mountain.

Waffle Cabin

By the middle of the day, I knew I needed a break.  Apres ski anyone?

The Waffle Cabin is a must.  I loved the plain and my daughters enjoyed the chocolate drizzled waffle.  As long as you have a few dollars in your pocket (the Waffle Cabin only takes cash), you can literally ski down the slope and pick up a waffle! Delish!

Lucky for me, a festival was going on this weekend!

Jackson Gore Inn’s courtyard offers a great place to relax in Adirondack-style chairs and enjoy the brewfest.

Hops on the Snow Brewfest.  was a great way to try new craft beers while enjoying live music near the Jackson Gore Inn.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day.

When my girls came off the slopes, we headed to the stone fire pit to enjoy some Seriously Sharp cheddar provided by Cabot Cheese.

One of my favorite things about Okemo Mountain Resort was the proximity of our suite at the Jackson Gore Inn to the slopes.  We literally went down the elevator and walked right out the chair lift.  Super close.  When we entered our suite, we created a mud room for all boots and helmets.  Notice one of the helmets is not a rental.  Thanks to the Snowsports Shop Tent Sale, my youngest found a purple helmet at an awesome price!

On Easter morn, the little ones participated in an Easter Egg hunt and had a visit from the Okemo mascot.  I took the opportunity to get a character photo op and show off my new bag from Vermont Flannel Co.  Love it!

We could not have asked for a better weather weekend.  The Jackson Gore Inn is a beuatiful sight as well as the majestic mountains.

Before we left, we took one last family photo to remember a wonderful weekend as a family as well as a great time spent with good friends.

Snowtubing at Jackson Gore Inn

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, there are so many  great off-mountain activities to enjoy outdoor fun at Okemo.  My girls absolutely loved  Okemo’s Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster.  It is is a thrilling ride through an alpine landscape. Cars that carry one or two people glide smoothly on tubular rails that follow the natural contours of the mountain, twisting and turning between trees and along giant, banking corkscrew turns. Passengers control their speed, making each ride a distinct experience down the mountain.

After dinner one evening my younger two ventured to The Ice House, a multi-functional, year-round sports pavilion, for some time on the ice.  I do love ice skating but my sore muscles wanted to visit the outdoor hot tub.  Best idea ever!

My girls thought it was pretty awesome that we were going to close down the snow tubing area.  April 1st was the last day. Snow tubing is a popular early-evening activity at Jackson Gore. Specially groomed chutes keep inflatable snow-sliding “inner tubes” on track for an exciting slide down a snowy slope. Snow tubes are available for rent and a magic-carpet style surface lift returns tubers to the top of the chutes after each exhilarating ride down.

Pin for Later

Thank you to Momtrends for the invite to Okemo Mountain’s Influencer Weekend and to Okemo Mountain for a complimentary stay, ski lessons, ski rentals and passes to off mountain activities.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Spring skiing is best! Not so cold! It has been very warm here so far, and raining instead of snow. I don’t think any local place to ski can have skiing yet!

So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macy So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macys and Santa! Last night, we took the train into the city to preview #Macys #Santaland I have to say it was quite magical. Although my youngest was 12, Santa was able to connect to her and put us all in the holiday spirit.

I believe. I believe….

My mom also came with us. We started talking and I think it was almost 40 years ago that she took us to visit Santa at Macys. I was so happy to visit Santa with her and my youngest for a three generation experience.

Don’t forget to check out the beautiful window displays as you enjoy all of #NYC during the holidays!

#ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but #ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but 1 in 5 adults suffer from mental illness and disorders today.

Let’s reduce the stigma by opening up the conversation in the classroom and at home.
As a teacher and a mom of 3, I know how important it is to be there and be a good listener.

Conversations are super important. It’s never too early (or too late) to have these conversations with your students or your own children.

Operation Conversation is a check-in on kids’ mental health. When we start simple habits of conversations, we can learn about concerns or problems our students are dealing with, help them problem solve, and build their confidence for life’s difficult moments.

Teachers can help to destigmatize mental health starting in their own classrooms by talking to their students about mental health using a free deck of conversation starter cards. Parents can also use these cards to support good conversations while at home. I know as a mom, I can use all the help I can get.

#Giveaway Alert!
I have 5 decks of Conversation Starter Decks of cards to give away to 5 lucky winners to help you get the conversation flowing!

New York state has so many wonderful places to be New York state has so many wonderful places to be a part of . From the bright lights of NYC, to quiet places of respite in its parks and wooded areas. Time to walk, hike and reflect. Being active and busy is something that I hope my teens learn from and something we can do together to enjoy all the beauty and nature it has to offer while keeping NY tobacco free. Did you know that our oldest generation of smokers are now dying? After them, you have me and a very large group of people who do not smoke at all. So, who’s next? Instead of taking cigarettes off the shelves, the tobacco industry views today’s teens as tomorrow’s customers, using menthol-flavored products to attract and addict kids – and it’s working. More than half (54%) of youth who smoke (ages 12-17 years) use menthol cigarettes. making it easier for kids to start and harder for them to quit. Menthol is not JUST a flavor, it attracts and addicts kids As a teen mom, I am sharing this so we can all take action!
