What is Fonio? I know that is what I wanted to know when I first heard about it. This Earth’s Goodness Super Grain was a welcomed addition to my morning routine. It’s flavor also makes it versatile for any meal. I love breakfast and I love starting my day with a healthy choice. It is easy to prepare and is ready quickly.
The texture of fonio as a breakfast cereal makes it very filling. There are so many great healthy reasons that you should incoporate fonio into your diet.
- Naturally gluten-free
- Low in fat and sodium
- 4 grams protein per serving – contains essential amino acids including methionine and cysteine
- 1 gram fiber in each ¼ cup portion
- Good source of B Vitamins – Folate, Niacin, Thiamin, and Vitamin B6
- A smart food choice for people with diabetes – carbohydrates containing resistant starch and less than 1 gram total sugar
It has more protein, vitamins and minerals than oatmeal. Fonio really packs a punch for getting all the nutrients that you need.
If you head to the Earth’s Goodness website, you will find recipes that can be easily added to your diet. Two recipes that I would really like to try are:
HERB FONIO CAKES TOPPED WITH SHRIMP AND ASPARAGUS
TOASTED FONIO BANANA BREAD
