I hope you have been following along on my journey of sharing what I learned about the movie Coco. I saw it a few weeks ago and it is definitely a must see. It is easy to fall in love with Miguel and his passion for music. He is challenged by the fact that his family will not allow music at all because of a secret from their past.
While Miguel goes to defy his family and get the only guitar he can think of, he is taken to the Land of the Dead. While there he meets his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz and Hector, a skeleton who desperately wants to get to the Land of the Living. Alas, he cannot because his photo is not on an ofrenda.
During his time in the Land of the Dead, Miguel learns a lot about his family and find the truth behind many things. I took my daughters to see the movie and this was when we all yelled “YES!” in the theater.
Just like many Disney Pixar movies do, you will laugh, cry and love. It was fitting that I went with my girls to see the movie because this movie is about family and tradition. Although we do not have an ofrenda or celebrate the Day of the Dead, we celebrate our ancestors and we didn’t even know it. My mom often says “Do they know in heaven that we are talking about them?”
When the movie was over and we were walking to the car, we spoke of my grandmother, my great aunt and the girls started asking more about their paternal grandmother. The movie obviously touched them too.
This holiday season take your family to see Coco and you will fall in love with this story of tradition and family. You will also laugh and love Dante too. Who is Dante? Wait and see how cute he is and how he helps Miguel on his journey.
