There are moments when we get stuck in the day to day of our lives. And then, one day, it just all seems to click and you realize that they are listening and learning.
The past Friday, I had my kindergarten students think about what they would like to do if they were president. We had read a variety of books about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in honor of President’s Day.
Then, I asked the class to think about what they would do if they were president. As I helped them write in the moment, I didn’t have a moment to truly capture what they were all saying. It was only when I had a chance to look at their papers later that day, then I relfected and realized how proud I was to be their teacher.
Here is a compilation of their answers. They really make me feel optimistic about the future.
If I were president, I would:
- give freedom to the galaxy
- make everyone happy
- give homes to those who need
- make everyone happy
- want to be just like George Washington
- do the right thing
- shake hands
- give people freedom
- share everything
- make people laugh and play
- make laws
- respect
- take care of everybody
- give freedom to people
- give more play
- never let the flag touch the ground
I don’t know about you but I think this is just what I needed to read. They were so sincere in their written responses. It was a great way to end our day together before our February vacation.
Hope you enjoyed reading and that you enjoyed your President’s Day!
Thank You for sharing, inspiring .
This makes me smile and gives me hope for our future. It is sad that the world in in a dark place right now.
My nephew wanted to be president ever since he was 2years old. He would ask for tuxedos and boutonaires for his birthday and always had this incomparable authority.
Such sweet and innocent comments. My heart is happy reading these thanks for sharing!
That is so cute. My son did a similar exercise at school and he wrote “make everything cost less.” Mostly because he wants to go on vacation EVERY MONTH and I tell him no way we can’t afford to do that. LOL
Now I would love to meet the kid that said “never let the flag touch the ground” that one is wise beyond their years!! These answers are so great!
This is very sweet! Young people have some pretty good ideas! Maybe they will end up in the oval office some day!
Thank you for sharing this. Those are some great kids right there!
These are adorable and inspiring. Our real leaders could take a few notes from these kids!
What a great list. The comment about making people laugh and play made me smile! What a great group of kids.
These are so cute! Kids are full of innocence and love! Adults can definitely learn from them. This put a smile on my face.
It’s stuff like this that gives me hope. Sometimes it’s really important to listen to kids. They’ve got really important things to say sometimes and it always comes out simple, direct, and to the point!
Love seeing sweet stuff like this! Kids are wise beyond their years. If more adults would take the time to actually listen to them we all might learn a thing or two.
This is so beautiful and truly inspiring. I wish we could keep that generosity and kindness as adults. What happens to us?!?!
I love these little people already! Freedom, Giving and Care are truly values that are so important! Way to be an awesome teacher!
I love this idea. Such purity and innocence at this age.
Aw – “Make people laugh and play”. I love that. The world would definitely be a better place if we all laughed and played a bit more. 🙂
I love this: shake hands. Such a simple act and it has such power to show respect and kindness and openness. I love the wisdom of children!
This is so wonderful to hear. I have high hopes for the next generation!
Kids that age are amazing. They have hopes dreams and nothing is in the way (for most) I am inspired by their answers!
