Raising Three Savvy Ladies

NYC Lifestyle Blog

August 3, 2016 //

Our Visit to American Girl Place in NYC & WellieWishers Doll Giveaway

The American Girl Place in NYC is filled with dolls, dolls and more dolls.  Each one is adored by girls of all ages.  When my two youngest savvies arrived at the store, they sat here with their dolls as if they were going to report on the lastest doll findings.

Each time one of my daughters has turned 6, my mom has taken them to the American Girl Place.  This time, it was my youngest’s turn to experience it all.  Her birthday was in the spring, but with school sports, it can be hard to go on a weekend.

American Girl Cafe NYC

When you arrive at the Cafe, your doll is given a high chair so that she can sit right next to you.  We took our new WellieWisher Willa with us to enjoy lunch at the cafe.

IMG_3162

Everyone starts lunch with a warm welcome of cinnamon buns, yummmm!

American Girl Bitty Lunch

The first course served is a family-style platter featuring tomato-basil bruschetta, hummus, crisp vegetables with ranch dipping sauce, and house-made pigs-in-a-blanket.

American Girl Lunch in NYC

The Bitty Bites lunch was the perfect size to share with Willa.  Miniature sizes of your favorite foods such a hot dogs , cheeseburgers and a mini order of mac and cheese.

Before we left the cafe, it was time to celebrate Meema’s birthday.  The signature chocolate mousse flowerpot and a vanilla cupcake with a candle helped make the day extra special.

IMG_3189 (1)

It was actually my first time at the cafe.  I thought everything was excellent and the staff was very attentive. At $24 per person in midtown Manhattan, I thought the price was extremely reasonable to enjoy the American Girl Cafe experience.

American Girl NYC Wellie wishers

After our lunch, it was time to walk around and explore the latest American Girl had to offer.  One of which is the new Welliewishers dolls.

American Girl Wellie Wishers

WellieWishers, an all-new content & doll lifestyle brand for girls ages 5 to 7. The lively group of WellieWishers friends–Willa, Kendall, Ashlyn, Emerson, and Camille–imagine and play in an enchanted neighborhood garden supervised by Aunt Miranda.

IMG_3211

Through their heartwarming and humorous adventures, the WellieWishers help a girl to learn how to “stand in another person’s wellies” to discover the skills of empathy, kindness, and compassion that will help her be a good friend.

IMG_3220

At the end of our trip, we took the time to window shop and see the adorable Welliewishers.

IMG_3235 (1)

All generations will enjoy The American Girl Place.  My mother was happy to spend the time with my girls and seeing how happy they were at the American Girl Place.  If you have little girls, this is a must-see in NYC.

The WellieWishers line of adorable 14 1/2-inch dolls retails for $60 and one lucky reader is going to be able to choose a WellieWisher doll of their own.

Happy that your girls had a good time at the American Girl store. My sister and I collect American Girl Dolls. We started when the company was Pleasant Company. We have all of the original dolls and a few of the later ones, too. We also have a few minis and most all of the books. We like the older books better because they have the history at the end of the book. Thank you for this generous giveaway.

So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macy So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macys and Santa! Last night, we took the train into the city to preview #Macys #Santaland I have to say it was quite magical. Although my youngest was 12, Santa was able to connect to her and put us all in the holiday spirit.

I believe. I believe….

My mom also came with us. We started talking and I think it was almost 40 years ago that she took us to visit Santa at Macys. I was so happy to visit Santa with her and my youngest for a three generation experience.

Don’t forget to check out the beautiful window displays as you enjoy all of #NYC during the holidays!

#ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but #ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but 1 in 5 adults suffer from mental illness and disorders today.

Let’s reduce the stigma by opening up the conversation in the classroom and at home.
As a teacher and a mom of 3, I know how important it is to be there and be a good listener.

Conversations are super important. It’s never too early (or too late) to have these conversations with your students or your own children.

Operation Conversation is a check-in on kids’ mental health. When we start simple habits of conversations, we can learn about concerns or problems our students are dealing with, help them problem solve, and build their confidence for life’s difficult moments.

Teachers can help to destigmatize mental health starting in their own classrooms by talking to their students about mental health using a free deck of conversation starter cards. Parents can also use these cards to support good conversations while at home. I know as a mom, I can use all the help I can get.

#Giveaway Alert!
I have 5 decks of Conversation Starter Decks of cards to give away to 5 lucky winners to help you get the conversation flowing!

To enter:
1. Comment on this post as to why you would love the conversation starter deck of cards.
 2. Follow @OnOurSleevesOfficial
3. Follow me @SavvyMomNY I will pick the winners after 10pm on 11/22

New York state has so many wonderful places to be New York state has so many wonderful places to be a part of . From the bright lights of NYC, to quiet places of respite in its parks and wooded areas. Time to walk, hike and reflect. Being active and busy is something that I hope my teens learn from and something we can do together to enjoy all the beauty and nature it has to offer while keeping NY tobacco free. Did you know that our oldest generation of smokers are now dying? After them, you have me and a very large group of people who do not smoke at all. So, who’s next? Instead of taking cigarettes off the shelves, the tobacco industry views today’s teens as tomorrow’s customers, using menthol-flavored products to attract and addict kids – and it’s working. More than half (54%) of youth who smoke (ages 12-17 years) use menthol cigarettes. making it easier for kids to start and harder for them to quit. Menthol is not JUST a flavor, it attracts and addicts kids As a teen mom, I am sharing this so we can all take action! Learn more about the impact of Big Tobacco’s manipulative tactics on our communities and how you can take action to help end this injustice. Let’s keep our kids enjoying the wonderful things our state has to offer. Link in bio #NotJustMenthol #TobaccoFreeNYS #ad @tobaccofreenys
