On Filming with Elliot
Oakes Fegley plays Pete and you will immediately fall in love with him. He shared that they did stunt training before they started filming. “You have to imagine the dragon. It was challenging.” While filming, they used a tennis ball or a piece of tape on the wall. The green screen can be a challenge and both Oakes and Oona make it seem effortless.
Watching the trailers and the seeing the dragon for the first time was incredible.
On Filming in New Zealand
Oona shared many of the same feelings about New Zealand that Bryce Dallas Howard shared in our interview with her.
It’s such a beautiful and luscious place. There’s so much to do there, too, so it was great. When we had free time we would go do all the touristy stuff. Also, the people there are so nice. At the end of it, my mom was like, “We have to move there!
Oakes said that he misses his driver Shane. We were doing stuff outside of filming. I really miss him!
Oona Laurence shared that her favorite part was one that was filled with emotion.
“I guess the part where Oakes & Elliot say goodbye….it ripped my heart out.”
Oakes chose a scene that I remembered laughing at. He liked the part where Elliot was face-to-face with a cow.
Oakes was very happy to have starred in a Disney film. “I was like, Wow! I’m incredibly proud of myself!” What a positive outlook. It is great when kids are able to speak about their successes.
He also said that his most challenging scene was when he had to leave Elliot. “I had to imagine the tennis ball going bye-bye.” I thought he was just too cute!
I can say that I was inspired by the two of them. While 25 bloggers interviewed them, they were able to answer our questions thoughtfully.
Oakes Fegley just finished filming a movie with director Todd Haynes. He said it was really life-changing.
Oona Laurence is going to go to high school.
Message from Pete’s Dragon
There is no denying that the sense of family is super important in this new version of Pete’s Dragon. “Family is very very important. You can’t give up on family. They are always there for you.”
I must say that I must agree. What a great way to end our interview!
