Did you know that May is National Better Hearing Month?
Duracell wants us to be aware of our hearing health. Hearing loss is the second most prevalent health issue globally. The number of people with hearing loss is more than those living Parkinsons, epilepsy, Alzheimers and diabetes combined. From 2000 to 2015, the number of Americans with hearing loss doubled.
48 million people suffer with hearing loss, missing out on many key moments in their lives. Living with hearing loss can lead to isolation and depression.
Award-winning actor and director, John Slattery (“Spotlight,” “Mad Men”), who lends his voice to the film’s voiceover, is partnering with Duracell as he has personally experienced the issue: his father suffered from untreated hearing loss before being tested and receiving hearing aids. Now that his father has hearing aids he has stopped feeling disconnected. His quality of life is better and he’s more engaged.
Duracell’s film: “Don’t Miss The Moments that Matter” showed the difference in a man’s life of wearing a hearing aid. The movie was a “before & after” style and as I looked around the room, many were smiling. The message hit home and that perhaps, there was a person in his/her life who chose to wear an aid.
Guest speaker Paul Mauro spoke candidly about his hearing loss. He now wears an aid. He said he is a proud hearing aid user. He spoke of life before wearing a hearing aid: how his wife acted as his interpreter, feeling disconnected, shame and feelings of embarassment and isolation. He was so thankful his wife convinced him to seek professional help so he wouldn’t be “missing it all”. Hearing loss is a very sensitive issue to bring up to a loved one. Paul said that he felt connected with his family again and that he felt social again as well. He said that Duracell is powering his life and keeps him in the loop.
Duracell is promoting hearing health awareness. We were given ear buds to simulate hearing loss and how it made us feel. .

My brother-in-law has hearing loss. It is good to see this article. You don’t see much regarding hearing loss. Thank you for sharing.
I need to have my Dad get this hearing test. I wonder if there are any left. I am going to check it out and it is so important to make sure that everyone’s hearing is the best it can be.
This is really a good thing! My son was born with some hearing loss in one ear. He wore a hearing aid to school and used a lot of Duracell batteries! 🙂
This is a great article. Hearing is important and these free tests are so convenient.
Wow — This is great information. I didn’t know that they offered this service. Very good to know.
I think this is a really neat program and great for those that are low income or don’t know how to get access to services to get a hearing test.
That is really great offering free hearing test. I went deaf in ’07. It only took 6 months from going to hearing fine to hearing nothing. They never determined the cause.
it’s great for anyone at any age to be aware and test their hearing. thanks
