Do your athletes love a variety of sports?
In my house, all my athletes have tried many different sports such as soccer, basketball, lacrosse and swimming to see what they liked best.
This basketball season, my 4th grader decided to try the rec basketball team for the first time.
Three easy ways that I supported her are:
- Be present – I attended almost every game. It helped that the games were scheduled in the evening. Being there makes the difference
- Practice, Practice, Practice – Although I haven’ played, I supported her by helping my daughter and her friends get picked up and dropped off home after practice. Since I am home early from work, I did my best to carpool some of the girls home
- Keep your athlete hydrated. – By panning ahead, I had drinks like ice water and Powerade chilled and ready for her. Running the court and defended the ball keeps you on your toes and it is important to constantly hydrate.
It might be tiring but this mom wants her daughters to have all the experiences they would like with sports that they love.
Knowing that I am there cheering her on is important to me.
There is potential in all of us. No matter what you achieve in life, you start in the same place as everyone else: as a kid full of potential and big dreams. At the end of the day, we are all “just a kid” from somewhere.
POWERADE believes that with the right motivation these everyday athletes can realize their potential and one day be the athletes that they look up to. Sports have a major impact on our communities. Whether it is t-ball or the pros, every athlete in every league has a story waiting to be told.
Represent your somewhere with custom “Just a Kid” apparel that features where you’re from here. All net proceeds from the sale of “Just a Kid” apparel goes to the Boys & Girls Club of America.
POWERADE is available for everyday low prices and in multipack assortment of sizes at Walmart and Walmart.com.
those are 3 great tips to supporting kids in their athletics! I’m thirsty now!
That’s great! I do that with piano, but hopefully we’ll be doing soccer with the youngest soon. Got to keep these kids busy!
My younger brother played in our school’s basketball varsity team. He loved it whenever the whole family would watch his games – it was a family event that we all looked forward to.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to stay hydrated in any sport. It’s good that we have products like Powerade that aid in keeping athletes ( and possibly non-athletes as well ) hydrated.
These are some awesome advice tips – I have to admit I wouldn’t know where to start with supporting an athlete – I only eve swam as a child / teen. x
I try to support my son and be there for him! But I think the best thing is to let him make choices as far as sports and what to do with his sport life. Some parents force kids to play sports and create a hectic schedule……I let my son decide what sports he likes and what he wishes to play, making our lives way easier!
I love these ideas. I’m hoping my oldest son makes it on the high school soccer team. I played growing up and my parents were always there rooting me on.
I tried playing basketball (for fun) when I was in college but got always whistled for a 3 second violation. However, I am a big fan of basketball.
For some reason none of my kiddos are into sports and I wished they were. Maybe someday they will be.
These are some great tips!!!!! My disgusted is too young for sports, but hubby however, he loves his power aide!
My son was in a baseball program last year and one of the most important things for him was to feel hydrated enough. We were lucky that the program provided water bottles for everyone, but once in a while we would stop by the local grocery store and get a Powerade, because he likes the flavors. 🙂
These are all great ways to support our athletes! My favorite one is be present! The most important one of all!
It’s so great that you support your daughter in her sports. I think it’s important to support all of our little athletes! 🙂
Some great tips – I’ll have to keep them in mind for future reference!! Thanks for sharing!

I was a sports rat in school, my daughter hated all sports. I tried her in several and none she liked. Staying hydrated used to not be stressed, glad that now it is!
