Just a few weeks ago, I attended the Dad 2.0 Summit. That’s right, a dad blogging conference. I feel that when attending a conference, if you come away with a few takeways, it was all worth it. I was blown away with the speakers and have quotes that will stay with me always.
For me, it all began when Brad Meltzer gave the opening keynote. I listened to words of legacy and “Who will remember your name?”. One moment in our life can have a huge impact on others and we might not even realize it. As a teacher, this completely resonated with me. Do we realize that “ordinary people change the world”?
Meltzer told us all to go say thank you. A person may never know how much he/she might have had an impact on your life.
“Go Say Thank You.” – Brad Meltzer
As if those thought-provoking words were not enough, the next morning we met Michael Strahan and I was left with another memorable quote.
“Be who you are. Be comfortable in your own skin.” – Michael Strahan
To end the conference, I was lucky to listen to Derreck Kayongo. Kayongo shared his story of the Global Soap Project and how it all began. Derreck, I steal the soap too! To tell you the truth, I usually donate all of my soaps and shampoos when we give to our local soup kitchen. I was completely moved by his storytelling and words of wisdom. As he spoke, I realized how lucky we are to live in America and how we really do have the ability to make a difference. Then to
“Don’t just be accomplished. Be exceptional.”
“Raise inclusive children.” – Derreck Kayongo
These ideals alone made it completely worth it to attend the Dad 2.0 Summit. I also met a group of great people and great brands such as Dove Men+Care, Best Buy, Lego, Hello products, Domain.me, Meta, Lee, Kidde, Memory Web and Kia.
I hope these words of wisdom leave a positive mark on your day!
This looked like a really great conference. I’d love to attend in the future.
