My five year old spent some time helping to review Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play app. One feature that she noticed right away was that the Explorer who was playing along with her called her by her avatar name and she was definitely impressed by that.
Captain McFinn & Friends is the only children’s entertainment brand featuring LIVE interactive guided play.
In Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play app, real, live people, known as Explorers, respond in real time to how a child engages with Captain McFinn’s interactive undersea world.
I remember watching her play and when the Explorer said her name for the first time, she was ecstatic.
These Explorers encourage a child while he or she is enjoying fun games and learning activities even addressing individual game play and learning via the child’s animated avatar name. The kids can see the Explorers, the Explorers can’t see them.
Take a listen to see how the explorer helps guide her through and encourages her.
The goal of the Swim & Play app, as well as the entire Captain McFinn brand, is to help preschoolers (children ages 3-5) learn social and emotional skills that they need to get along with others and be successful in school and life – such as sharing and politeness, playing as a group, being thankful and respecting others.
As a mom, these are skills that I want my child to have. As an educator, I find that these are necessary social skills to help children get along with each other. There are a variety of games and opportunities to learn positive lessons. One favorite part that my daughter liked were the Coral Cuties.
This latest version features three alternating worlds – Sand Dusty Reef, the home of Captain McFinn, Riff Raff Reef, focusing on preventing bullying behaviors, and The Unsmashable Cross Section, a sunken ship that focuses on using proper manners in everyday life.
These worlds offer 250 animated hot spots – up from 100 in the original version with interactive McFinn characters, original McFinn cartoons, preschool music videos, and songs and eight different activities focusing on drawing, creating music, and reading.
There are also badges for completing activities, a chatbox for parents to ask the Explorer questions, and a clap button for cheering on other users. All activities take place in a unique and magical animated, underwater world with a live, interactive experience to engage children.
Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play app offers teachable moments that share important life skills that promote kindergarten readiness and can be put into practice at home, at school and at play. Previously available by subscription only, Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play now sells for just $2.99 in the Apple Store and through Google Play.
If you have questions about the app, it is encouraged to leave them on Facebook.
