With school underway and October knocking at our door, your children are well into the new school year. They are learning new things, making projects and possibly bringing home “friends”, the kind that you don’t want them to bring home – GERMS!
Just as we prepare our children with pens, pencils and notebooks, we need to make sure that they are happy and healthy to help them improve performance and be present in school.
This is where the Lysol Heathy Habits initiative can help!
As part of our classroom routine, we discuss topics such as nutrition, fitness and proper hygience to help keep the class healthy.
Lysol has teamed up once again with Football Legend and Healthy Habits Coach, Jerry Rice to garner his unique Healthy Habits anecdotes and best practices to implement to set children up for success. As a teacher, I too believe that sleep, exercise and proper handwashing can help prevent an illness.
- Rest Up! Stick to a consistent sleep schedule. Children should be getting 8 – 10 hours of sleep each night to ensure they are well rested for a day of learning. I find that this it so important. It is obvious when I child has not slept enough. Their behavior changes.
- Make Time for Fitness! During the school year, kids are definitely running on a busy schedule, but that doesn’t mean that you can skip out on regular exercise. Incorporate at least one small but easy physical activity into their daily routine. Some examples are doing chores around the house or opting for a hike over video games. Other great ways to keep them active is afterschool activities such as dance, swim and soccer.
- The Twenty Second Rule – From the lunchroom to the playground children are always using their hands! Remind them to practice proper hand washing etiquette to help keep illness at bay.
Teach them to wash their hands for a full twenty seconds by having them sing the “Happy Birthday Song” twice from beginning to end.
Lysol makes the dirt disappear and kills cold and flu viruses too. After activities that use glue, snack and just the daily routine, it is easy to see the dirt from the day. Along comes Lysol wipes to save the day!
Did you know that Lysol recently won a Reader’s Digest ‘Most Trusted Brand’ award in the cleaning category?
How do you help promote healthy habits with your children?
I stocked up on Lysol before the kids started school. I am SO paranoid about the kids or myself getting sick.
I make my kids wash their hands all the time! We also use hand sanitizer.
Thanks for the tips. I definitely see the importance of getting enough sleep. I always feel bad when I don’t get enough.
These are incredible tips. Sleep, enough water, balanced meals, hand washing and exercise are what we try to do! The best habits for kids!
These are great ideas. You definitely have to make time for fitness. Getting a little home practice for school sports was always fun for us.
Handwashing is SO important! We use the twenty second rule also! I was singing the Happy Birthday Song with my daughter but recently switched to an app that she can easily use.
So many folks on my street have colds right now and it seems to coincide with back to school. We are a Lysol household.
These are all great tips .. I liked that you mentioned teaching kids to wash hands for at least 20 seconds, that is so important. I would like to add another weird tip ” Tell kids not to share Drink Bottles”
It really is important to take time for fitness. And we do love Lysol. I want to try their foaming soap.
Oh yes with 5 kids Lysol is a must! Germs, germs, germs! I even bring Lysol wipes and aerosol spray to hotels when we travel!
I am terrified of germs! My little guy started school this year and has already been sick twice. I swear I’v considered following him around with a bottle of Lysol!
I think because we are always so big we try and make sure that we are always careful to keep ourselves as healthy as possible. We try and get more sleep and we also use a ton of lysol and hand sanitizer.
We just don’t have time to get sick!
I Lysol everything! Anything to keep the germs away!
Great tips! I especially liked the one about singing the happy birthday song twice while hand washing.
Such great reccendations. Why does it seem finding time for the kids to get enough rest in their busy lives to be the hardest.
We talk to my grandsons about making sure they wash their hands good before they eat lunch, and we also have made it a habit to wash their hands once they get home from school every day to try and cut down on germs.
Thanks for the great tips! We promote healthy habits by washing hands often and disinfecting the counters.
Keeping them active and making sure they get enough rest is definitely our focus too!
This is all so true. I remember how hard it could be to get back into the school routine. I daresay a bedtime schedule can be hard to get back to. But the hardest one for little ones is the 20 second rule. Sometimes I know my son didn’t follow it if I wasn’t lurking around.
Hand washing is such an important part of staying healthy during the school year. This is a timely reminder.
Good tips. Washing hands is hammered into them by now!
