This summer, my three savvy ladies had an amazing experience taking part in Swim Lessons with SwimToday. We received lessons after attending a Swim Today Event with MomTrends in NYC. It was so awesome that we decided that this was something we wanted to pursue and we signed up to continue being part of a swim team.
From beginner Future Stars for my youngest, to practicing technique and strokes for my older two , I was impressed with the progress that they gained in a few weeks.
As a mom, I love that everyone participates. During the time in the pool, everyone is active. My girls are learning to be prepared. They are responsible for making sure they have all they need packed and ready to go- swimsuit, cap and goggles. We have found our experience at the Westchester Aquatic Club to be just what we needed. Coach Carle has been wonderful with all my girls and has helped figure out proper placement for all of them.
In the summer, we enjoyed our day and had lessons in the afternoon. Now that the school year is here and we are committed to going twice a week, we plan and prepare the week’s activities including homework. This helps with time management.
When I asked my girls what they like about swim, they said that they like learning the techniques in a variety of drills. Throughout the summer, my middle daughter felt she improved the most in breaststroke. It was a new stroke for her and she worked hard to achieve it. In freestyle, she learned that she should not do windmill arms. Her coach has been showing her how to better do a sneaky breath during freestyle. I see her try her best with this breathing technique.
My oldest said that it has helped her be more persistant. Although there are times when it might be a challenge, do not give up. The coaches noticed that she needed to work on breathing and with persistance, she has made great strides in learning to do it correctly.
My youngest is happy to be in the pool. Earlier in the summer, she would put swimmies on and head to the 8 ft. pool with a false sense of security. She wanted to be like her older sisters but did not have the skills. The swimmies have been put away and she is now a beginning swimmer learning the proper technique. With the younger students, she is in for a 1/2 hour and there are a lot of laughs and a 5 minute fun raft time at the end. When I asked her what her favorite part about swimming was she was was not as technical as my older two. She said she liked when she gets a treat at the end of her lesson. Hey, it works!
I am not sure how far the girls will want to go with their new desire swim. I will be there to support them with whatever they choose. Either way, they are having fun and learning a life-long skill.

Oh, I love seeing them fall in love with the water!
I think swimming is such an important skill to have, and learning young is so much easier than waiting till kids are older! My kids started taking more serious swimming lessons this past year and they would definitely agree with you — it’s definitely a fun sport!
