Last week, I had a few errands to do and my dad came over to watch the girls. I also asked him to put together the new School Specialty Bird-in-Hand Easel that had just arrived in the mail.
When I came home, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the girls had turned the dining room into a painting studio. At first, I was like, “No!, I didn’t get a picture of the items before use!” But then, watching my 4, 8 and 11 year old working together using the paint to try out a variety of painting techniques learned in school. It is always fun to try out the styles of Jackson Pollack or Pointillism like Seurat.
There comes a time when you just need to give them the tools and watch them explore. They found our painting cups and used the new material from School Specialty to work together as a team.
No one was arguing. They were listening to each other and were so excited to try out the Crayola Neon Colors.
When it was time to clean up, my oldest said that she had another great idea for the easel. She said that we should bring it to the living room, put it on a snack tray and use it to play Pictionary. Kids are so creative. My youngest said that she was going to bring it into her room to use to teach her stuffed animals. I am so glad that they can think outside the box and come up with lots of uses for it.
After watching my girls work together with the easel, I highly recommend this as an idea for holiday gifting. Having a tabletop easel as opposed to a free-standing one made it easy for my older girls to interact with it since it was not too low.

What would your inspiring artists create if they had a table -top easel?
I LOVE painting with my kids. A tabletop easel would be wonderful. I find that I am constantly putting down papers or doing it outside.
If my kids had the tabletop easel they would create masterpieces of baby dolls, robots and lego scenes
I use Donor’s Choose for my classroom and got my first project fully funded. It’s an amazing site, and so worthwhile.
