Writer’s Notebooks are a reflection of the written thoughts and ideas of the writer.
Since a Writer’s Notebook is so special, it needs to represent the writer. What they like, what they enjoy and who they are should be on the notebook to help make it unique.
We are big fans of using Duck Tape to make the notebook unique and keep it sturdy throughout the year.
My oldest had a homework assignment of decorating her Writer’s Notebook. Of course, Middle Savvy wanted to make one too.
We headed to Michaels and found Duck Tape with designs and patterns on sale 2 for $6. As we looked around, we found American Girl stickers, peace signs and some other things to make it special.\
On the back, we put a picture of the family. Just by looking at the picture, we were able to come up with a few small moments of that day.
By designing with duct tape instead of another material, everything stayed in place.
What’s Writer’s Notebook decorating ideas do you have?
I was not compensated for this post.
Love this idea! I am wondering how a modge podge would react to it, might be to wet for a notebook…. hmmm now I am going to have to experiment! They look great!
That’s so great – I love it!! I can’t wait until Peanut has some more focused energy for projects like this 🙂
Wow, they came out really nice. My 2nd grader had to do this same thing for school. We worked really hard to decorate his notebook with pictures, stickers and scrapbooking details. We did a baseball/family theme and it came out pretty good…wish I could share a picture of it but he keeps it in his desk at school.
Thank you!
It is nice to see how the grow artistically through the years. Peanut’s time will come before you know it.
these look great! my kids are totally duck tape obsessed right now, they cover just about every surface they can with it – and yet, we haven’t thought of books yet. thanks for the idea!
You are welcome – just curious, what do they use the duck tape for?
all of my girls love their notebooks.that is such a darling idea. Your girls look pretty pleased too:)
What a great idea. I would like my five grandchildren to each make a journal. It will be fun seeing how creative they will be when picking out the duck tape and supplies to see how they will decorate them.
Love this idea! My youngest loves to write! This is def a project we’ll start ASAP
I think that having a decorated notebook is a genius way to encourage kids to take care of them properly and WANT to use them. Kids are so much better if then learn to journal early and often. So cute. Love that the youngers wanted to join in!
Those are so cute! You are quite crafty!!
This is such a cute craft idea. You could use almost anything, but it gives your child the ability to be creative and imaginative.
I had my 7th graders do this activity last year. They sure loved those notebooks and filled them up quickly! I love your example here.
Love this idea! What a fun way to get kids writing.
