In NYC schools, supplies are not always in abundance. And, some kids are not able to bring in the needed supplies on a class list.
This is why when my savvy ladies and I were thinking of who to donate school supplies to, we had the perfect person in mind. Our friend works in a Title 1 Bronx school and we thought it would be nice to shower her with gifts to start the school year off right.
We asked our friends to donate supplies including Purell sanitizer for our endeavor. We started getting Purell products as well as crayons and pencils.
Then, we attended Blogger Bash in NYC. During the two-day event in NYC, we were able to meet with Crayola and School Specialty. When we told them about our project to support the community, they were happy to participate and were very generous and made our collection super successful.
Making the choice to give it to one local teacher made me feel that my daughters and I could make a difference for 1 second grade classroom. Sometimes, you just need to look right in your own community to see where the need is and how best you can help.
This year, NYC teachers will receive a stipend of $77 called Teacher’s Choice. This money is a mere drop in the bucket for the money that teachers spend on school supplies for their classroom and for the children in their classroom. By gathering School Specialty and Crayola supplies, a true gift is being given to begin September with a smile for the teacher and the students.
PURELL® Hand Sanitizer is partnering with Champions for Kids and WalMart to ensure students have the supplies they need as they head back to school with the PURELL® Lend a Hand Program.
Raising 3 Savvy Ladies was happy to participate in this program and help a local teacher gather much needed supplies for her classroom.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other leading health organizations, proper hand hygiene is one of the most important preventative measures you can take to reduce your risk of illness and infection. When soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains as least 60% alcohol.
Why PURELL Products Should Be On Your Back-to-School Shopping List
- Hand hygiene is one of the most important measures a person can take to reduce the spread of germs that cause illness and infection.
- Hand hygiene is especially important for school-aged children because they are spending most of their time in one room. In fact, according to a study conducted by the makers of PURELL, absenteeism caused by illness was 51% lower in classrooms that used PURELL Hand Sanitizer regularly and implemented a hand hygiene education program than those classrooms that did not.

What a great initiative! I love it when companies give back especially with such a worthy clause like education.
What a great gift to be able to donate those supplies! We love PURELL products and look at them as one of those essential back to school things to have! i’m definitely going to donate supplies to my nephew’s school this back to school season.
Purell products are great! I am so happy to see where you chose to donate. My younger brother was living in the Bronx until last year, and my Dad paid for Private school because the schools were so under-funded. This is so nice to see.
I love this initiative. What a great way to give back to a great cause. It is sad that the schools need so many things like this.
What a wonderful way to start the year and place your focus on something so meaningful! That is a great initiative. I think if all of us took time to make a difference in a small but meaningful way in our own communities we could make a HUGE impact!
I usually give a little extra in the beginning of the year. I know teacher are very underpaid, underappreciated and classrooms are understaffed so a few extra dollars worth of pencils, paper towels or even hand sanitizer can make a difference.
That’s awesome! Very neat that you are doing this.
Schools are always in need of something. That’s a great idea.
What a wonderful initiative! I have always loved Champions for Kids.
We made a big back to school donation this year to the local drive for kids at our kids’ school. Folders, glue, scissors, notebooks, crayons, and markers were all on the lists!
Love the idea of letting your kids pick a teacher to help support. I think every classroom should have Purell available. We should all be so generous with those teaching children.
You did such an awesome thing and really helped some kids out! Champions for Kids rocks!
I love these kinds of things! Donating to schools and teachers is something I can really get behind.
I’ve been surprised how many school lists include many multiples of items for the classroom. Then again, you can never have too many pencils or hand sanitizer 🙂
What a great program!
It’s wonderful to be able to serve others, especially within our own communities. What a great start to the new school year those 2nd graders will have!
This is great! It breaks my heart when I hear how much teachers spend out of their own pockets. Great to get your kids involved, as well!
I love the Champions for Kids program. They do such great work on so many different levels.
I think it’s great that there are programs out there to help provide school supplies. Many teachers just don’t have adequate supplies to teach the children.
I think this is such a great program. New school supplies always get kids excited about the new year.
This is such a wonderful program! 🙂
Purell should be in every school. If ever there was a place where germs floated freely, it’s school.
