As a Fox Home Entertainer Insider, I was invited to brunch with Sophie Nelisse by Fox Home Entertainment. Thank you to Lauren for attending on behalf of Raising 3 Savvy Ladies. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to have brunch with Sophie Nelisse and fellow bloggers at Norma’s inside The Parker Meridian. We were there to discuss her role in the film The Book Thief.
The Book Thief comes out on Blu-Ray/DVD March 11th. This is not a watch once kind of movie. It is the wattch it again and again and encourage others to see it. The movie tells such a heartfelt story for all to see.
I was in such awe of how this young actress portrayed the character of Liesel Meminger. She had to overcome so many challenges and yet triumphs in the end. We asked Sophie about her preparation for the film. Did she study for the role or watch any particular films to help her grasp what was happening during WWII in Germany? She answered us by stating that she watched some films such as Schindler’s List, Life Is Beautiful, The Boy In Striped Pajamas and The Pianist. She also visited museums and bomb shelters and even had 2 weeks of lessons to learn how to speak German so that her accent would be authentic. However, what surprised me most was that she had not read or seen The Diary Of Anne Frank.
While eating brunch and chatting with Sophie, it is was lovely to hear that she was just like your typical 14 year old who enjoys playing sports hanging out with friends and family and even using social media. Just like other girls her age, she prefers to use Instagram over Twitter. She hasn’t let this new-found fame overcome her. She is down to earth and very realistic of what the future might hold.
If you didn’t get a chance to see The Book Thief in theaters, now is your time to check it out on Blu-Ray/ DVD.

Sophie is such a cutie, what a talented young actress.
I can’t wait to see this movie.
Oh my heart, SO JEALOUS!!!! I adored the Book Thief! It is one of my favorite books and I LOVED the movie. My husband couldn’t understand how I could love something so “depressing” as he put it. But it was so powerful, inspiring, and moving for me.
I feel the same way. This weekend, I will watch it with my oldest daughter. I think she is ready!
