Yes, you read the title correctly. I had the opportunity to meet Ryan Reynolds and chat about his upcoming movie, Turbo which races into theaters July 17 in 3D.
A group of my NYC blogging friends and I woke up early Tuesday morning to be audience member of the Today Show and watch anchors Matt, Savannah, Natalie and Willie compete with Ryan in a game of Skeeball. This was no ordinary game of skeeball! Crews worked around the clock to transform the TODAY plaza into an Indy 500-style racetrack. All anchors and Ryan competed in a friendly race – between snails!
We interviewed Ryan in an intimate setting and he was a very friendly and down-to-earth kind of guy. I was intrigued by the movie Turbo’s messages of “No dream is too big.” Turbo never gives up when others say this is good enough. These are some pretty big messages for kids so I wanted to see how Ryan felt about being that kind of character.
Blogger: How do you feel about playing a character that has such an important message for kids?
Ryan Reynolds: I think it’s great. I have an army of nieces and nephews. I mean, literally an army. If we militarize them, we’d all be screwed.
And so, for me it’s a blast to have them out for the premiere and have them here and be a part of this. So more often than not, they don’t really get to see their uncle’s side of it.
Blogger: Right.
Ryan Reynolds: And this is a side that’s really exciting to them. Visiting me on a set, that’s like giving a child Ambien.
Blogger: Yes.
Ryan Reynolds: Coming to this part of it is the fun part for them.
Blogger: Right.
Ryan Reynolds: It’s the terrifying part for me, but it’s the fun part for them. So, I love that they get to come, and they get to go to the premiere, and they go see the movie, and watch it in 3D, and just be blown away. And that’s, in and of itself, that’s the reward.
So, when I signed on to do this one, and The Croods as well, I was just so excited about that part, yes, getting to share that with that part of my family.
Here is the Official Turbo Trailer:
Thank you to our hosts 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation for making this day possible.
