Thank you to @NYCLaurenBeth for being a part of the AHA TEAM Jenny with me and covering for Raising Three Savvy Ladies. With sister teamwork, we will walk away those pounds! For more coverage of the walk, please visit my coverage on Momtrends.
On Thursday, May 30 I participated in the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Wall Street Run & Heart Walk with “Team Jenny” and Valerie Bertinelli. Valerie Is Jenny Craig’s Brand Ambassador and has lost 40 pounds while using Jenny Craig and has kept the weight off since December 2007. Jenny Craig has celebrated 30 Years of changing lives by acknowledging 30 successful clients who have achieved their weight loss goals with diet and exercise and are now leading a healthy lifestyle. Valerie & the American Heart Association encourage everyone to commit to walking at least 30 minutes a day.
Participating in the walk along with my sister @SavvyMomNYC was really great. It was wonderful to hear other women’s stories of weight loss and how their journey is never-ending. You don’t just lose the weight and you are done with the program. You have to keep yourself in check and have a support team with you.
The walk started in lower Manhattan the Financial District and allowed everyone to walk at their own pace. It was not a fight to the finish but encouragement along the way from others .
Some benefits of walking are:
- Toning of your muscles
- Reducing symptoms of depression
- Maintaining a stable weight over time
- Helping control your appetite.
To learn more about AHA walks in your area check out Jenny’s site here. You can also find out how to prepare for a walk on the Jenny craig website http://jennycraig.com/heart-walk_aha-workouts. Thye have different options for everyone from beginner walker to the 5K challenger. There is something for everyone!

As a national supporter of the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. healthy living initiative, Jenny Craig is committed to helping combat the obesity epidemic and with it, the overwhelming health issues caused by weight-related diseases, including heart disease – the leading cause of death in the United States**. In fact, Jenny is working with the AHA to reduce Americans’ risk for cardiovascular disease by 20 percent by 2020. As part of their support, Jenny Craig is leading the charge by supporting nearly 300 AHA Heart Walks throughout the year, including next month’s New York Heart Walk, and will ask Americans to commit to walking at least 30 minutes a day to help maintain a healthier weight.
That is awesome. It sounds like you had a great day. Good for you!
Walking is excellent exercise! I love having a walking partner, so motivating!
I am a firm believer in the good walking does, both for the body and mind. What a cool experience to meet Valerie, by the way!
Walking is much better for you than running.
I am a big fan of walking, alone or with someone. I find it relaxing and a great way to get in some exercise.
It looks like you had a great day too!
I’ve started a routine at work in which I work for 50 minutes, and walk for 10. I should be able to get my 30 minutes a day in that way. (No, I wasn’t a math major.)
Good stuff here!
It sounds like a great way to get started exercising since it’s at your own pace. Walking is much more fun when you’re with others.
What a fun event! My little sis was born with a massive hole in her heart (she had surgery when she was little and has been great ever since). Because of that my dad was very active in the AHA when I was a kid. I loved doing all the walks and the jump rope for heart events.
So glad to hear your sister had a positive experience after surgery. I love the Jump Rope for Heart events too!
Thats so cool. I have always loved visiting NYC and its feels refreshing being there 🙂
I haven’t done a walk like this in many years. Makes me want to try one again.
