Looking for a grown-up prequel to the classic Peter Pan?
As a child I have heard the story of Peter Pan many times and even now see the excitement in my nieces’ faces when they hear about Peter and Tinkerbell. Though they mostly know of it through the tales from Disney, they have a pretty good sense of the story line.
I was intrigued to hear about Peter and The Starcathcer and how it tells the tale of Peter before we all knew him and he remains the boy who never grew up. Through your imagination and those of the actors this wonderful story is told, with a pretty simple set that 12 sensational actors appear on. Though some have specific roles they are ever evolving into many characters. The usage of props is also very minimal but I loved how one rope could become such an asset in the story line by depicting different places and items.
Without giving away to much of the story line you will learn so much more about who Peter really is and how his name came to be and why he must remain a young boy. The evil villain Black Stache has his wicked ways and will be forever in your head as Captain Hook. Don’t forget the constant tick tock sounding you will soon know why it plays such an important role.
This production will have you laughing out loud numerous times. I absolutely enjoyed every moment. I have never seen a production where the entire cast is so dependent on each for every move to depict locations and how they pull each scene together with out upstaging one another.
Peter and the Starcatcher won five 2012 Tony Awards and was recently named one of New York Times, New York Magazine and New Yorker’s Top 10 Shows of the Year. It recently moved to the New World Stages Theater at 340 West 50th Street after its triumphant run.

Neat!!!!
I have never heard of this before now but Peter Pan is one of my favorites from when I was young.
Thanks for the review! I am dying to go see this. I am a huge Peter Pan fan and can’t wait to see how they interpret the story.
This is one of my favorite Peter Pan story lines. It’s also one of those books that will get reluctant male readers to start reading!
