Two thumbs up for Kinky Boots!
Billy Porter met with fellow NYC bloggers after the preview.
In Kinky Boots, Charlie Price (Sands) has suddenly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the
verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds
inspiration in the form of Lola (Porter). A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns
out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he’s meant to be. As they work to turn the
factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible…
and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.
Inspired by a true story and based on the Miramax motion picture written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth,
Kinky Boots features a warm and witty book by Mr. Fierstein and a richly diverse musical score from
Ms. Lauper, in her stunning theatrical debut. Mr. Mitchell has crafted a production bound to move,
inspire and set audience’s feet dancing
First and foremost, I love the music! Cyndi Lauper creates lyrics that truly captures the heart of the show. I like how we are taken back in time to see young Charlie and Lola. Seeing them as children brings to point the idea of acceptance of others. So, with a title like Kinky Boots and a fab song “The Sex is in the Heel”, I think the show would be a hit for Middle School and up. The song is the only part that I felt might be risque for my daughter.
Everything else is in good fun. I especially liked Annaleigh Ashford’s style. Her facial expression combined with her voice made “Charlie” one of my favorite songs. She starts off as a shy character and then transforms to an amazing lead.
Overall, the idea that “when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world”. This message of acceptance and understanding is one that should be spread far and wide. This is why you need to go see Kinky Boots to enjoy it for yourself!
I had to take my photo outside with Cyndi Lauper. When I saw her in the back of the theater, I immediately became 9 again and started singing “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. I maintained cool and was happy to spy her in the theater.

Another wonderful review that makes me want to get to the theatre to see it!
Sounds like a great night. Glad you liked it!
I’d love to see that. What a cast! Glad you had fun.
Ha! What fun! I’m so jealous of you being able to go see shows on Broadway. That’s awesome!! 🙂
I love music like that. I have never been to NY, or Broadway for that matter, but maybe this summer I can talk my husband into going out.
What a fun girls’ day out! Looks like a blast – and I love your photos!
I wish I could! I love your review! I just heard of this the other day other day on the Kathy and Hoda show!
I loved, loved, loved Kinky Boots! I got to see right before my birthday, and I want to see it again! And I rarely want to see anything twice!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Love all your great pics, and I also thought Kinkky Boots was fantastic! I’ll be back with my daughter when she’s just a little bit older!
I am hoping this Broadway production comes to Columbus, Ohio eventually. Most of them do! I loved reading your review and it just reiterates my desire to see this production. I too love Cyndi Lauper and her music so I couldn’t imagine this production failing with her music involved!
This sounds like a blast! I never knew Cyndi Lauper had been involved with something like this.
