Getting the Most out of your Health Insurance

Recently I was able to hear about some features and benefits of my Health Insurance plan that either I wasn’t full aware of and  wasn’t taking advantage of.

Healthy Families start with healthy moms and moms are many times the ones taking care of everyone in the family when someone is not feeling well.

BCBS offers a 24/7 Nurse Line which connects you to a live registered nurse  no waiting on the phone waiting to get connected to someone and then find out  you need to speak with yet another person.   The registered nurses are available to assist you with any medical questions or follow up from a previous appointment.  The hotline is most commonly used for questions regarding pediatrics.  They can also advise you if you do need to seek medical treatment at an urgent care, follow up with your regular Dr. or go directly to the ER.

For those who are expecting their first or third child there is a Future Moms Maternity Program to help you along the way giving personalized support to keep you healthy and in turn keep your newborn healthy.  They provide tools to help you keep track your pregnancy and spot any possibly risks.  There is a toll-free number for a nurse coach who can assist you with any questions you might have.  I think it is fabulous that they even follow up with you after the baby is born.
Staying healthy and fit is something for the whole family and  there is a Web portal that is a personalized Site that you can use to develop a health plan  with e-mail reminders to help with busy lifestyles and to keep you on track with working out.  And of course staying on top of those Dr. Appointments.  This can also be set up for each member of the family.  This portal allows you to stay on top of your goals for fitness, nutrition and preventive health care.

Staying fit and healthy with many other daily activities can sometimes be a hard task but with the Fitorbit website you can achieve these goals.  This site pairs you up with a personal trainer that you can interact with on the web.  They can help customize a family friendly meal plan as well fitness plans you can do anywhere.  Though there is a fee for this website it is very affordable at $10 a week it is doable make a switch and makes your own coffee in the morning and it is already paid for.
Fitorbit makes you never feel alone again, you are motivated daily by your trainer and they will help you find time to get that work out completed during your busy day.  If you can’t do it for 30min try at least 8 min and stick with it a little longer each time.

You can also measure your progress of working out with a device called Fitbit, this small monitor can be worn to track how steps you take, miles walked and stairs climbed throughout the day.  On Fitbit.com you can incorporate you caloric intake to see you progress of losing weight and how you can achieve this goal. Once you connect your fitbit to your computer it uploads all the information automatically and you can see where you might need to improve on a day to day basis.   Though this device is not covered by insurance plans you can check with your health care provider to see what discounts are available to you from gyms to Weight Watchers and other services.
