New York Blow Dry Bar NYC – A Makeover Experience

“If mom is happy, then everyone is happy. ”  One easy way to keep mom happy is by having good hair.  As of 2012, no more daily ponytails for me. A little makeover for the new year is in order.  I love getting m hair blown out.  As I look back at my blog, I notice that this is becoming a trend of mine.  It is a trend that I like and look forward to continuing. I even had my hair done a Momtrends event – those events are my favorite!
So, with my savvy ladies all taken care of, off I went to NY Blow Dry Bar located in the Meatpacking District in NYC.
I arrived at opening and almost instantaneously, the salon was filled with those waiting to experience the #1 blowout rated by Vogue, InStyle, Allure, and New York Magazine.  While settling in, I took note of the black patterned tights being worn all.  (Definitely something I need to purchase!)  Jane’s addiction was playing in the background and one client was even in inline skates skating to her chair.
I made my appointment online and learned about all the blowout pricing options.  Since I was a first timer, I indicated that by choosing “It’s My First Time” blow out on the service menu and I received a price consultation.
On the website, it states: Blow has three different price points for our signature blow out based on your hair’s length and texture. We like to call them a Blow Out 1, 2 and 3 (also known as BO1, BO2 and BO3)
During my shampoo, Naomi gave me two shampoos to make my hair extra clean.  Good to know for wanting to keep my blowout as long as possible.  I was offered water and a magazine while my stylist Paul was busy sectioning all of my hair.  He used the heat is on™ protective styling mist.
It detangles and strengthens hair. The detangler is a must for my hair.  It also  “Insulates” hair from potential damage as it adds shine and eliminates breakage.  This product also can be used to touch up the blowout throughout the week.
Paul sectioned my hair and used a large curling brush to blowout my hair. I have a lot of thick curly hair so this is an undertaking. As he dried my hair, I noticed the shine of the products immediately.
As he was close to finishing, he also used a fine comb for wispies. Although hot, it is worth the heat for those pesky “flyalways”. He finished off my hair with weather girl™ climate neutralizing complex.  It Prevents frizz, split ends and “flyaways” in all weather conditions… even in the most humid conditions. Adds glossy shine without stickiness or residue.  I loved the shine that it gave my hair. I also liked how it kept the flyaways in place.

The “blow dry care” product line is sold in other salons and stores like Ulta.  It is never tested on animals.  When I checked out, I was able to have my receipt emailed right to me. Good bye paper.  Everyone I met was friendly and  I had some great “me” time.

I enjoyed my day of pampering and I loved my blowout.  At $50, I’m not sure if I could keep this as a weekly habit.

I’d never even hear of a blow out or a blow dry bar. Do you just not wash your hair for about a week after you have it done?

I try my best to keep it as long as I can. I use dry shampoo. I wear a showercap to help and at night, I wear it up in a high ponytail or bun.

Kerri you look fantastic, they did a beautiful job! Longer hair takes forever to blow out, while it’s a splurge, it’s a totally worthwhile one, it saves so much time when the pros do it!

So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macy So happy to kick off the holiday season with @macys and Santa! Last night, we took the train into the city to preview #Macys #Santaland I have to say it was quite magical. Although my youngest was 12, Santa was able to connect to her and put us all in the holiday spirit.

I believe. I believe….

My mom also came with us. We started talking and I think it was almost 40 years ago that she took us to visit Santa at Macys. I was so happy to visit Santa with her and my youngest for a three generation experience.

Don’t forget to check out the beautiful window displays as you enjoy all of #NYC during the holidays!

#ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but #ad Mental health isn’t talked about enough, but 1 in 5 adults suffer from mental illness and disorders today.

Let’s reduce the stigma by opening up the conversation in the classroom and at home.
As a teacher and a mom of 3, I know how important it is to be there and be a good listener.

Conversations are super important. It’s never too early (or too late) to have these conversations with your students or your own children.

Operation Conversation is a check-in on kids’ mental health. When we start simple habits of conversations, we can learn about concerns or problems our students are dealing with, help them problem solve, and build their confidence for life’s difficult moments.

Teachers can help to destigmatize mental health starting in their own classrooms by talking to their students about mental health using a free deck of conversation starter cards. Parents can also use these cards to support good conversations while at home. I know as a mom, I can use all the help I can get.

#Giveaway Alert!
I have 5 decks of Conversation Starter Decks of cards to give away to 5 lucky winners to help you get the conversation flowing!

New York state has so many wonderful places to be New York state has so many wonderful places to be a part of . From the bright lights of NYC, to quiet places of respite in its parks and wooded areas. Time to walk, hike and reflect. Being active and busy is something that I hope my teens learn from and something we can do together to enjoy all the beauty and nature it has to offer while keeping NY tobacco free. Did you know that our oldest generation of smokers are now dying? After them, you have me and a very large group of people who do not smoke at all. So, who’s next? Instead of taking cigarettes off the shelves, the tobacco industry views today’s teens as tomorrow’s customers, using menthol-flavored products to attract and addict kids – and it’s working. More than half (54%) of youth who smoke (ages 12-17 years) use menthol cigarettes. making it easier for kids to start and harder for them to quit. Menthol is not JUST a flavor, it attracts and addicts kids As a teen mom, I am sharing this so we can all take action! Learn more about the impact of Big Tobacco’s manipulative tactics on our communities and how you can take action to help end this injustice. Let’s keep our kids enjoying the wonderful things our state has to offer. Link in bio #NotJustMenthol #TobaccoFreeNYS #ad @tobaccofreenys
