On our very long drive from NYC to NC on Friday, there were three items that we greatly needed.
1. Plastic bags – An hour into the trip my 5 year old started to complain of her stomach. For the first 5 hours, we were stopping and going to help her with getting carsick over and over. Thank goodness for the bags and that she let us know in advance!
2. Paper towels – When you need a plastic bag, you are also going to have to clean it up. I always have in my trunk and they were extremely useful.
3. Time – Leave late at night or early in the morning. One thing that saved us was leaving at 3:30 am. We avoided Cross Bronx traffic and NJ Turnpike traffic too. We just cleared Dc traffic too.
Overall, they were well behaved. A new video helped too. They watched PBS Kids Steve Songs for the first time. We do this drive almost every summer and now that they are getting older, I need to think of more things to keep them busy.

That’s a long and far drive. Good tips on what to bring!
Great tips! I remember driving to Orlando from NY and plastic bags was the one thing that we forgot to pack. My son got sick and we had to stop plenty of times.
I was so relieved that we had them. It’s the little things in life that make you happy!
Great Post! I find that sometimes even when traveling with Adults or the Elderly these three things are Necessities!
