Don’t try this at home! But definitely try it at the Liberty Science Center! The MythBusters Exhibit is the perfect addition to Liberty Science Center’s hands-on way of making science fun.
The MythBusters “Live Show” is entertaining and educational. The audience helps tests if a human could dodge a paint ball bullet. The MythBusters first shot the paintball into a big gong with various delay settings to simulate different distances from the paintball gun.
Then the MythBusters asked for three volunteers and tested their reaction times to hitting a buzzer based on hearing a sound and seeing a light. The volunteer with the fastest reaction time became the “test dummy”. This interactive show keeps the audience involved the whole time. The audience helps form a hypothesis and then works with the MythBusters Team to test theory.
The MythBusters take no risks in protecting the volunteer. The “test dummy” suits up in a special coat that has metal plates sewn into it that fully covers his body. The volunteer also holds a riot shield in front of him to protect himself from the paintball. The paint ball was first shot with no delay and the volunteer had no chance of missing the hit. The orange paint splattered on the left side of the shield. Then a little delay was added and the paintball was shot. This time the paintball hit the riot shield a little bit more towards the center. The team added more of a delay and the paintball hit smack in the middle. The fourth time was the winner! He was able to dodge the bullet with the 4th try. This was truly an engaging and fun experience.
The whole exhibition has working props and experiments for the whole family to try. If you are a fan of the show, this is a must see! You are able to test some of the most memorable myths and theories for yourself. This exhibition is great for the whole family but definitely is geared more for older children, teens and adults. Though small children definitely will have fun testing the myths and theories.
My personal favorite of the exhibit had to be watching everyone trying to pull a tablecloth off a table without knocking down the table setting.
You can walk through the Exhibit again and again and find a new theory or myth to test for yourself.
The MythBusters Exhibition definitely made science fun and entertaining. More importantly, we all learned a few new things!
Another exhibit that we visited was the Illusion: Nothing Is As It Seems. Is everything really as it seems? Your perception can really be changed through magic and science. Be ready for optical, audio and perceptual illusions.
The Liberty Science Center was a great experience for the whole family.
Raising 3 Savvy Ladies would love for you to take a visit to the Liberty Science Center soon. We have a Family 4 Pack of tickets for 1 lucky reader.
