Pete’s Dragon flies into theaters tomorrow, August 12th and you will not want to miss it.
I love the sense of magic and wonder that comes along with this movie and I think you will too.
First, this version is completely different than the 1977 classic that we all grew up watching. It is a re-imagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon”. We meet Pete, an orphaned boy, and his best friend Elliot, who just so happens to be a dragon. Right away, you can see the love they have for each other and the family they have created.
Second, Robert Redford. That’s all I have to say about that. I can see why my mother fell in love with him years ago in “The Way We Were”. His knowledge and love of acting is evident. When he tells the story of the dragon to the children of the town, you too want to sit there and listen to what you think is a tall tale.
For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley).
With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.
Finally, I left the movie with a true sense of what it means to be family. There are so many moments that bring that warm family hug moment feeling to you. You want to be a part of it too. (I don’t want to spoil anything so I will let you see what I mean.)
Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, tomorrow.
