Thanks to my writer, Anna, for attending on behalf of Raising 3 Savvy Ladies. All thoughts and opinions are her own.
I had the awesome opportunity to attend The Big Apple Circus again and it didn’t disappoint!
I cannot stress enough what a family-friendly event this is. There is absolutely nothing scarey for the little ones and most importantly, it won’t be scarey for your wallet! I took four 8-yr old girls with me and I spent a total of $74 dollars! This included: a tub of popcorn; 4 cotton candies; a hot dog and diet soda (for me); and 4 Big Apple souvenirs.
It was an all new show this time around and aptly named, Metamorphosis. You won’t believe your eyes and you and your family will be in utter amazement. I can’t pick a favorite act – they were all incredible.
There were contortionists; flying acrobatics; illusions; animal acts; high-flying trapeze; and more. I felt this year’s theme was representative of what circuses’ were like years ago and how they are meant to be. Everything about it was family friendly. When you sat down in your seat, you were entertained from start to finish. What was extra-nice was that there are no pushy vendors coming up and down the aisles yelling, “Buy your Light Up Toy Here…!” or “Cotton Candy Here…”; Shaved Ice Here…”; etc.
If you wanted to buy something, you had to walk out to the concession area and get it yourself. The same was true for the souvenirs….if you wanted it, you had to walk up to the booth. The souvenir and concession prices weren’t in the stratosphere like the flying trapeze artists. Everything was affortable and wasn’t forced on you to purchase. You were not bombarded by “in-your-face” selling that usually ends in your child crying and begging.
As an animal lover, I was very impressed with the animal acts. The animals are rewarded in a positive way (by getting a treat) instead of getting yelled at or whipped.
I went to the Big Apple website and read about their animals; trainers and how the animals are cared for. I was very impressed and it shows in the way the animals act in the show. You could tell how the animals adore their trainer.

One of the girls that came with us had never been to the circus. She LOVED it! My veteran circus girls loved it too and made mention on their own how “The Big Apple Circus is the best circus to go to”. They love how they were able to see everything up close and there was nothing scarey.
