Momma Lew and her blogger buddies are having a Holiday Cookie Swap Party and you are all invited! Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the cookies that each blogger has prepared for you!
This recipe is a 4 generation favorite. As you can see, my grandmother wrote this a long time ago.
We love to make at least two – three batches during the holiday season to share with family and friends.
Butter Cookie Recipe
4 cups of sifted flour
1 cup sugar
1 lb butter – room temperature
Everyone should wash hands really well.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Get the kids involved.
Instead of putting a cup at a time into the sifter, I put a 1/2 cup at a time so that they get more turns.
Kids love to sift. I have two different kinds for then to use.
Once all ingredients have been added, you will need to mix with your hands.
Crack the egg in another bowl to avoid getting shells in the mix.
You cannot mix with a mixer.
It takes about 5 minutes to get the dough completely mixed.
The dough is now ready for the cookie gun. The cookie gun has different discs that can be used to make various shapes. Use an ungreased cookie sheet.
The girls decorated the butter cookies with 3 gingerbread people for 3 savvy ladies, of course. For other times, we like to decorate with with chocolate morsels, m & ms, red hots, sprinkles, or colored sugar.
Bake in the oven for about 8 – 11 minutes. Carefully watch the first batch because oven times may vary.
Have cookies cool and enjoy with a cold glass of milk.
